Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengurangi <em>bycatch<\/em> tersebut adalah dengan penggunaan teknologi lampu LED, yang dipasang pada alat tangkap gillnet. Yayasan Missool Baseftin dan Departemen PSP FPIK IPB melakukan penelitian bersama penerapan teknologi lampu LED untuk mitigasi <em>bycatch<\/em> pari manta di perairan Solor, Kabupaten Flores Timur. Salah satu kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah pelatihan <em>observer<\/em> yang akan melakukan pengambilan data ujicoba lampu LED, pemberian materi pelatihan oleh Dr. Mochammad Riyanto dan Dr. Ronny I Wahju dari Departemen PSP FPIK IPB.
